Freda McKay Hannah went to be with Jesus on June 26, 2014. Freda was born on March 29, 1943 in Rosedale, MS to H. P. and Corrie McKay. She graduated from Cleveland High School and attended Delta State College. Freda worked at Baxter Healthcare, secretary for Bolivar County Baptist Association and clerk at Cleveland High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Gwin Hannah, on July 12, 1964. She was a charter member of the Cleveland Pilot Club and a member of the United Daughters of Confederacy. She did count cross-stitch, loved her children and adored her grandchildren. While the clerk at Cleveland High School, she felt like all the students were her children, and treated them as such. Freda was a member of First Baptist Church of Richland, MS.
Freda was preceded in death by her father, Harold Perron McKay.
She is survived by her husband, Gwin, two children, Missy (Tim) Kistemaker of Mooresville, NC, and Will (Tammy) Hannah of Richland, MS; five grandchildren, Lauren Hannah, Hannah Kistemaker, Luke Hannah, Bethany Kistemaker, and Ryan Kistemaker; her mother, Corrie Holmes McKay; a sister-in-law, Wanda Hannah (David Phillips) of McDade, TX; a brother-in-law, Carl Bailey, Jr. of Byram, MS; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Visitation will be at Ott & Lee Funeral Home, Highway 49 South, in Richland, MS on Sunday, June 29, 2014 from 5 until 8 pm and Monday, June 30, 2014 from 10 – 11 am. Funeral Services will be at 11 am Monday from the Chapel of Ott & Lee Funeral Home, Richland, MS. Graveside services will follow at 3:30 pm at Delta Heights Memorial Garden in Cleveland, MS. Dr. Kevin Jones Officiated and Carl Bailey, Jr., Junior Cobb, Tim Holbrook, Homer Sledge, III, Jerry Van Namen, and Jimmy Warren served as pallbearers.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Gene Loper, Dr. Murphy Martin, and Hospice Advantage, especially Alison, Anna, Brittany, Caroline, and Cissy for their care and help during Freda’s illness.
