Mr. Gary James Thrash, age 72, a resident of Leesburg passed away on Friday, January 13, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family. Visitation was held 5pm – 8pm Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton and 12pm-1pm Monday at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton. Funeral services were held 2pm Monday, January 16, 2017 at Leesburg Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Bro. Billy Ray Parker, Rev. Ricky Kennedy and Bro. Jeff Jones officiated the services. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
Mr. Thrash was born in Rankin County on August 19, 1944. He believed in a strong work ethic. He was a Row Cropper and Cattle Farmer and he enjoyed riding and looking at his land and cattle. Gary wanted to be a good steward and firmly believed you can’t out give God. He loved his church, was a reasonable man and a spiritual role model to many. Gary was a family oriented man and very generous with time and money. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Tillman Odell Thrash and Bessie Lee Lewis Thrash; son, Lee Thrash and sister, Carolyn Thrash Hopkins.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Brenda Joyce Crapps Thrash of Leesburg; daughter, Angela Boyd and husband, Andy of Leesburg; grandchildren, Anslee Boyd and Aiden Boyd; mother-in-law, Betty Joyce Crapps; nephew, Ronnie Hopkins and a host of friends.
Pallbearers were Sidney McLaurin, Mack Nelson, Jason Busby, Joe Lane Kelly, Cody Parker, Charles Renfroe, Chance Easterling, David Boyd and Jimmy Pevey.
Memorials may be made in his honor and name to Leesburg Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
