Gary W. Varner, Sr., age 65, of Pelahatchie, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, August 16, 2020 at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin after an extended illness.
Gary was born to EE (Jake) and Myrtle Varner on October 22, 1954. He grew up in Pelahatchie and attended East Rankin Academy and Pelahatchie High School. He joined the Army at 18 and served in Korea. He had various jobs over the years and retired from Rankin County where he was a road crew supervisor.
Gary loved and cherished his family and his greatest joy was being a “Paw”. He is survived by his daughters Gretta Evans and Rebecca Laughlin, (Lenny), a son, Gary Varner Jr.,(Raeann); step-daughter Marcy Burnell (Lewis), grandchildren, Tyler (Brianna) , Jessica, Hayley (Brad), Zachary (Natalie Brady), Noah, Miah, Braden and Easton, 5 great grandchildren, his sisters Kathy French, Gayle James (Kenny) and brother Butch Varner (Betty), a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Jerry French.
There will be a memorial service at Cross Roads Baptist Church on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be 10:00 am at the church.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Betty Eddins for the love and care she gave during Gary’s surgery, recovery, and setback. Gary was blessed with the donation of a lung. The family is forever grateful for the time that the donor gave us to spend with our daddy, paw, brother, uncle, and friend. Please consider giving the gift of life.
