Gay DukesBrandon Karen Gay Ford Dukes, 49, of Brandon passed away Saturday, May 18 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Steve Dukes. Gay was born August 31, 1963, in Corinth, MS, the daughter of Jimmy and Melba Ford. Gay is also survived by daughters, Shellie and Carol Dukes of Brandon, her brother, Scott Ford (Dianne) of Purdy, TN and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gay received her undergraduate from MUW and her Masters from USM. Gay worked as a speech pathologist at Methodist Rehab for 13 years before joining the Rankin County School District. Gay’s loving and kind heart were well known to her family and friends. She greeted each day with a smile and put others’ needs before hers. Spending time with her daughters and family were very important to Gay. She enjoyed watching her MS State Bulldogs play and enjoyed wearing her maroon and white to family functions after Egg Bowl wins.
Gay was a member of First Baptist Church of Jackson and enjoyed working with children and youth during her 25 years at FBC. Gay’s faith was unwavering during her long battle with cancer and she used every opportunity to let others know of her love and devotion to Jesus Christ. Her faith will be a lasting testament to everyone who knew her.
A celebration of Gay’s life will be held at FBC on May 22 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be 5-8:00 pm at FBC. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Mission First, 275 Roseneath Ave. Jackson, MS 39203; But God Ministries, 1440 North State Street, Jackson, MS 39202; or Campers on Missions, 870 Brentwood Drive, Biloxi, MS, 39532.
