Genevieve Sorey

Mrs. Genevieve Sorey, age 95, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Brandon Court Nursing and Rehab.

Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm on March 13, 2021 from the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Danny Dickerson and Pastor Maxine Jenkins will officiate. Interment will follow in the Carr Church Cemetery in Smith County under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.

Mrs. Sorey was a native of Mobile, AL and was a longtime resident of the Pineville community. From those of her generation, she will be remembered for her enjoyment of homemaking and providing for her family; crocheting and cooking were two enjoyable pastimes. Faithful to her Lord, and His church, she was a member of the Pineville Methodist Protestant Church and added to her faith by listening to gospel music. She practiced her faith by praying for others and exercising the greatest deed of discipleship, loving others. She was an avid reader. As echoed by her family and friends “she was a character, witty, and jovial.” She had a passion for animals, in particular, her many cats, and her beloved canine, Izzy.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Wilbur Sorey (1987), her parents: Aaron Hance and Beulah Ivy Smith; one sister and two brothers.

Survivors include her three children: Freida (Kenneth) Watts of Forest; Shelia (Pat) Munday of Pearl and Linda Shaw of Brandon; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Her six grandsons will serve as pallbearers: Stevie Hammons, Kevin Hammons, Chad Hammons, Scotty Watts, Rodney Watts and Jason Shaw.
