George Ishee

February 8, 1936 — November 8, 2021

Brandon, MS

George Darrell Ishee was born in Louin Mississippi on February 8, 1936.  He died on November 8, 2021, at MS Baptist Hospital after a brief illness.  George graduated from Louin High School in Jasper County and continued his education at Jones Junior College in Ellisville.  He then entered the workforce at Neco Mfg. Plant in Bay Springs where he stayed until he was drafted into the US Army.  At Neco, he met his wife of 64 years, Ellen Joyce Ethridge, and together they traveled with the army to Fort Hood, TX.  They were then deployed to Germany where they spent a few happy years seeing the countryside and making new friends.  They were expecting their first child when they returned to the United States.  George went to work with Miller Transporters in Jackson where he would remain through its change to Ergon.  Over the course of his many years as a vice president with Ergon, he enjoyed travel to many foreign countries.

George and Joyce became parents to three boys in the early 60s, George Wayne (Barbara), Mark Davis (Marchell), and Allan Bruce who died in 2014.  They were blessed with two grandsons: Wayne's son Zach and wife Cori are the parents of Mallory.   Mark and Marchell are the parents of Jesse Davis, an Eagle Scout and freshman at MS State.  The boys were the delight of their lives.

George will be remembered for his love of golf and Saturday mornings always found him, with his golfing buddies, at Colonial Country Club, ready for their permanent tee time of 9:10.  He gave new meaning to the phrase "rain or shine” and was the central character in many funny stories.  One of these was the time he had to be called in from the course when the golf pro looked up and saw the solitary figure of George plodding along through the snow!

Wherever they lived, from South Jackson to Pelahatchie, their community churches played an integral part in their marriage and family life.  They were members of Park Place Baptist Church for many years.

George is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Joyce Ethridge Ishee, as well as sons Wayne and Mark and their families.  He is also survived by his sister Berneice Green (Breland), brother Stanley Ishee (Auzlia), brother Dan Ishee (Linda) and sister Judy Lisiewski (Tom), as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents George C. and Mable Ishee, son Bruce, and his brother Paul Ishee (Wynette).
