George Dewey Joyner, 102, died Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Brandon Court Nursing Home in Brandon. Visitation is 9 – 11 am Friday, August 20, 2010 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Funeral Services are 11 am from the Chapel of Ott & Lee Funeral Home with burial in the Old Brandon Cemetery.
Mr. Joyner was born in the Union Community near Brownsville, TN to James Collie Joyner and Annie Overton Joyner. He came to Rankin County, MS at the age of 11 and has lived in Brandon for the past 64 years. He was a very unselfish person and would go the extra mile in helping others. He retired from the City of Brandon in 1972 as street foreman. He was a charter member of Brandon Baptist Church.
Mr. Joyner was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Thelma Holmes Joyner; a daughter, Joann; his parents; four sisters, two brothers, and two half-brothers.
Mr. Joyner is survived by a son, Rodney Joyner (Barbara) of Brandon; a daughter, Docie Joyner Edwards (John) of Pelahatchie; five grandchildren: Richard Joyner (Pam) and Steven Joyner of Brandon, Ricky Edwards (Lisa) of Pascagoula, Due Edwards McKinion (Johnny) of Pelahatchie, and Sam Edwards of Melbourne, FL; seven great grandchildren: Katie Joyner Walker (Brent) of Brandon, Meg Joyner Barefoot (Brett) of Oxford, Mary Clark Joyner and Brian Joyner of Brandon, MS, Morgan and Peyton McKinion of Pelahatchie, and Joey Edwards of Dallas, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the Staff of Brandon Court for their many acts of kindness and loving care for this loved one.
