George W. McKay Sr., Charleston,SC
George William McKay Sr. died on Sunday, June 12, 2011, at the Veterans Medical Hospital in Charleston, SC. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, beginning at 5pm. until 8pm. at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Funeral services will begin on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS at 10am. with burial to follow in Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, MS.
George was born March 18, 1933, in Pelahatchie, Mississippi. He retired from the United States Navy following 20 years of honorable service. Additionally, he was employed by the State of Mississippi as a law enforcement professional and concluded this career with a second retirement. He was best known and respected as an honest and professional law enforcement officer having served with the State Game and Fish Commission, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and a graduate of the National FBI Academy. In 1979, George married Frances Kirby McKay and they were married for 32 years. George was a member of Crossgates Baptist Church in Brandon.
In addition, George was preceded in death by his loving wife Frances Kirby McKay and his parents Middleton Hilliard and Gladys McKay.
Survivors include his son, Sonny (Jill) McKay and grandchildren Laurel and Cole of Mount Pleasant, SC; brother, Shelton McKay (Peggy) of Pelahatchie; step-son, Harry (Ann) Kirby of Clinton; and step grandchildren Karla Murray of Madison and Katie Kirby of Clinton.
