George Edward Tolbert, age 87, a resident of Carthage, formerly of Lena, died Sunday April 6, 2014 at the Golden Living Nursing Home following an extended illness.Funeral services were conducted at 11am Thursday April 10, 2014 from the chapel of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest. Rev. Steve Roberts officiated. The funeral procession took up at the arena in Goodhope where Mr. Tolbert was taken to the Goodhope Cemetery for interment by a horse drawn wagon driven by Jack Pope and his wagon team. Nathaniel Settlemir and Kyle Settlemir provided the Scripture and Prayer at the graveside service.Mr. Tolbert was born on December 11, 1926 in Montgomery, AL to his parents Curtis Tolbert and Bonnie F Hagalton Tolbert. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Church of God. He had retired from Parker Drilling Company where he worked in the oil fields. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending time with his family, farming and horses. Mr. Tolbert will be missed by all who knew and loved him.He was preceded in death by his parents, a son; William Edward Tolbert and his wife Margaret Crimm Tolbert.Survivors include his 4 children; Julia A. Parker of Lena, George Earl Tolbert (Dorothy) of Augusta, ME: Donna Watkins (Alan Monk) and Penny Settlemir all of Lena; 1 brother, Junior Tolbert of Odessa, TX.
