George Dawes Varner, Sr., age 80, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025, in Florence, MS. He was born on July 12, 1944, in Brandon, MS. George was the owner of Circle G Feed & Western Store and a proud graduate of Pearl High School, where he excelled as a football player and kicker.
George was member of Briar Hill Baptist Church. He was a dedicated family man who loved his wife, Barbara Varner, and cherished his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his son, George Varner Jr. and Laura; daughter, Stacy McDaniel and her husband Tony; sister, Artherine Burnham; and grandsons, Lawson Varner and his wife Ana, Colton Culpepper, Dalton Culpepper, Stone Varner and his wife Kayla, and Brody Culpepper. He also leaves behind his great-grandson, Park Aaron Varner, as well as his nephews John Burnham and his wife Debra and David Burnham and his wife Virginia and nieces Joan McDaniel and her husband Danny and Diane Speights.
George was known for his love of horses and enjoyed visiting the horse sale every Saturday to catch up with friends. He was a mentor to many young individuals throughout his life and was an avid supporter of Ole Miss football and baseball. George never met a stranger and left a lasting impact on those around him.
He was preceded in death by his father, A. D. Varner; mother, Willie Inez Varner; brother, Gerald Varner; and brother-in-law, John E. Burnham.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow in Cross Roads Baptist Cemetery in Pelahatchie, MS.
