George “GB” Bowman, 97, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016, at his home. Visitation will start at 9am Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at Antioch Baptist Church in Brandon, MS. Services will begin at 11am at the church. Interment will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Bowman was born in Rankin County on February 17, 1919 to Oscar and Alice Huff Bowman. After graduating high school he joined the Army Air Corp during WWII. He later married Frances Marie Smith of Lincoln County. GB was a faithful husband of 52 years and he took care of her until her death in 2003.
GB loved to work on his farm and gardening from daylight until dark. He also enjoyed his church, where he was very active, his Sunday school class, and reading his Bible first thing every morning.
Survivors include his children, Jayne Jones, Leann Garrett (Steve) and Benjie Bowman (Laurie); 3 sisters, Velma Letchworth, Willie Jewel Ponder and Daisy Williams; 2 brothers, Virgil Bowman and Hubert Bowman; 7 grandchildren, Jason Jones (Jamie), Chris Jones (Courtney) Cayla Burks (Davey) Whitney Wyatt (William), Bo Garrett, Ty Garrett and Blake Bowman; 7 great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Elbert Bowman.
The family would like to express a special thank you to his caretakers, Yello Beauchamp, Mary Hubbard and Gail Curtis and also to his nurse Robin Cumberland at Hospice Ministries, Inc.
Memorial contributions may be made to Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, where he served on the committee for many years.
