Services: 2:30pm Sunday, October 2, 2011 from the Ott & Lee Chapel in Morton.

Burial: Morton Memorial Gardens.

MORTON, MS

Mrs. Baker, 89, a resident of Morton, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2011 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. She was born November 9, 1921, to John Vernon and Ada Catledge Sargent and was one of eight children.

She loved her church and was a member of Concord Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Louisville and First Baptist Church in Morton. She enjoyed WMU, working in Vacation Bible School, her Sunday School Class, the Joy Choir and attending senior adult activities. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and served as Worthy Grand Matron in the Morton Chapter.

Survivors include her six children, Fred Roberts (Faith) of Jackson, Wanda Priester of Jackson, Kay Somers (Tom) of Pearl, John David Roberts (Anne) of Cordova, TN, Ronnie Roberts (Jeannie) of Mobile, AL, and Bobby Joe Roberts (Renee) of Clinton; her stepchildren, Dr. Judith Nelson of Albany, CA and Marsha Hoogstra (Craig) of Washington, DC; Grandchildren include Leigh Langford, Brian Roberts (Michelle), Bobby Priester,Jr. (Kris), Pam McLendon, Greg McCrory (Kim), David Roberts, Mandy Shackelford, Mark Roberts (Kristy), Mickey Roberts (Angela), Dustin Roberts (Tamara), Colby Roberts, Rachel Roberts and Gracie Roberts.

Her great grandchildren are Kimberly Collins (Kenneth), Kelly Langford, Jessica Priester, Nicholas McLendon (Leigha), Ashley Collins, Austin McCrory, Cody McCrory, Rowan Shackelford, Ethan Roberts, Jillian Roberts, and Carly Denise Roberts and two great great grandchildren, Colton Collins and Shaleigh McLendon. She is also survived by a brother, Gerald Sargent (Minnie Lou) of Grenada, Sisters-in-law, Joyce Sargent Hurt of Louisville, Betty Roberts of Hereford, TX, Grace Roberts of Baton Rouge, LA, and Thelma Roberts of Louisville, brothers-in-law, Olyn Roberts of Louisville and Sam Roberts (Gladys) of Asheboro, NC.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Fred Roberts and Kenneth Baker; her parents, John Vernon Sargent and Ada Catledge Sargent; three brothers, John Vernon Sargent, Jr., Grady Sargent and George Sargent; and three sisters, Glennie Sargent, Geneva Sargent Dacus and Gladys Moss White.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Brian Roberts, Bobby Priester Jr., Greg McCrory, Dustin Roberts, Colby Roberts, Nick McLendon and Kenneth Collins. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Howard Clark Sunday School Class.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Morton or the Baptist Children’s Village.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 2, 2011 from 8:30am at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton until the 2:30pm service, with Rev. Earl Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Morton Memorial Gardens.
