LEESBURG
Mr. G J Thrash, age 91, passed away on March 14, 2012 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, Mississippi. The family received friends 5-8p.m. Friday, March 16, 2012 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton. Funeral services followed on Saturday, March 17th at 11:00 a.m. in the Ott & Lee Chapel and interment at Leesburg Baptist Church Cemetery.
He was born on October 16, 1920 in Rankin County, Mississippi to the late Ruby L. Thrash and Verna Bates Thrash. He served his country in the United States Air force during World War II. He previously owned and operated a service and repair station in Clinton, Mississippi in the early 1950’s and had interest in two cotton gins and a construction business. He was an active farmer until his death. He was a member of Leesburg Baptist Church, serving on the building committee.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie McKay Thrash and his brothers, R.L. Thrash and Rev. Odell Thrash.
He is survived by two children, Jimmy Thrash and wife Helen of Leesburg and Barbara Thrash of Raleigh; sister, Ruby Nelle Harris; two grandchildren, Cheryl Thrash Jenkins and Chandy Thrash Lee; four great grandchildren, John Elliott Jolley, Laura Alice Lee, Lydia Grace Lee and Lucy Kate Lee; special friend, Michael Bilbro and special friend, Betty Joyce Crapps. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Pallbearers were Michael Bilbro, Cole Bilbro, Seth Bilbro, Chris Lee, John Elliott Jolley and Terry Smith.
He was an original stockholder at East Rankin Academy and any memorials may be made in his honor to ERA, P.O. Box 509, Pelahatchie, Mississippi 39145.
