Gloria Lawson

August 5, 1947 — August 19, 2012

Gloria “Dodie” Lawson of Brandon passed away peacefully at home August 19, 2012 after a long time battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). She was 65. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 24 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Ott-Lee funeral home in Brandon. Services will follow in the Ott-Lee chapel with interment at Crestview Memorial Park in Brandon.

In 1976, Dodie earned her real estate and brokerage licenses in Arkansas and established her own brokerage company. She was an avid bridge player and earned the prestigious title of Life Master, one of the most highly sought levels of bridge achievement.

Dodie was a fabulously talented seamstress and lovingly created all of her daughters’ formal and wedding gowns. She was an extensive world traveler but, more than anything, enjoyed entertaining family and friends at her vacation home in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Dodie loved to read and to browse cookbooks for new recipes. She was a wonderful homemaker who was dedicated to her family and found no greater pleasure than doting on her four grandchildren. She was a caring friend and a beautiful person inside and out. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Dodie is survived by her husband of 47 years, William E. “Sonny” Lawson of Brandon; her daughters Stephanie Lawson McAlpin and Tricia Lawson Flasck; sons-in-law Gayden McAlpin and Greg Flasck; grandchildren Lexy McAlpin, Will Flasck, Jake Flasck, and Addie Flasck, all of Madison; sister Patty Gober Roberts of Grove Hill, Alabama; brother Kenny Gober of McGehee, Arkansas; and sister-in-law Judy Lawson of McGehee, Arkansas.

The family would like to thank Hospice Ministries, with special appreciation of nurse Debbie Woods and Chaplain Douglas “B.B.” Watson, for the exceptional care they provided to Dodie and her loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi.
