Gordon Prince Roberts, 86, of Brandon, Mississippi, stepped into Heaven on January 7, 2025.
Gordon was born on March 23, 1938 in Avera, MS, to Wilburn Everett Roberts and Emma Juanita Norsworthy Roberts. He attended Starkville High School. Gordon married Helen Delores Wright on May 30, 1958, and together they had four children.
Gordon worked in many career paths. He was a grocer at Kroger, served in the MS Army National Guard 113th Military Police, Master Sergeant in the 172 nd Air National Guard, owner/operator of the Brandon Sharpening Service and Small Engine Repair, where he repaired mowers, chainsaws, and could sharpen anything with a blade on it. Gordon was also a professional locksmith. Gordon served as head of security at Tristate Brick Company, and was a police officer at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Before becoming an Ordained Bishop in the Church of God, Gordon served as a Gideon in the 1980s. Gordon served as a Sunday School Teacher for 8 years, Church Treasurer for 6 years, and served in a nursing home ministry with his wife and children for 5 years. In 1990, Gordon answered God’s call to ministry as an Ordained Bishop in the Church of God. Gordon pastored at the Bradley Church of God in Bradley, MS from 1989 to 1997, and the Mitchell Chapel Church of God in Poplarville, MS from 1997 to 2002. During his full-time ministry, Gordon delivered 1,896 sermons, introduced 59 people to Christ in salvation, saw 2 believers baptized in the Holy Spirit, baptized 28 believers in water, and added 41 members to the church.
After his retirement from full-time pastoring in 2002, Gordon served as a Chaplain for Southern Care. After Hurricane Katrina, Gordon served in Operation Recovery, assisting churches and non-profit organizations with recovery from the damages and indirect impacts of the storm. Gordon served the Brandon, Trinity Life, and ChristWay Church of God as a facilities manager and an adult Sunday School Teacher.
Gordon was preceded in death by his wife Helen Roberts, parents Wilburn and Emma Roberts, brother Jimmy Roberts, and sister Hilda Byrd.
Gordon is survived by his daughter Karen McKlemurry (Ron), son Ken Roberts (Pam), son Mike Roberts (Tammy) and son Scott Roberts, as well as grandchildren Stephen McKlemurry (Jennifer), Seth Roberts, Jordan Roberts (Anna), Rebecca Roberts, David Roberts, Jodie Cevallos (Camila) and Zoë Roberts, and great-grandson Brayden Slaughter. Gordon is also survived by his brother Tommy Roberts (Pansy), and sisters Lynda Roberts, Nelda Rigney, Beckie Saucier (Curtis), and Ann Roberts (Richard Smith).
The family would like to express a special THANK YOU to the staffs of: Wisteria Gardens Rehab Center in Pearl, the ICU at Merit Health River Oaks Flowood, and Gentiva Hospice, for their wonderful care of our Dad during his last days.
A funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Ott and Lee Funeral Home, Brandon MS, on Friday, January 10, 2025 at 2:00 pm, with visitation Thursday, January 9 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm and again on Friday, January 10 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, with burial at Brandon Memorial Gardens.
