“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22-23) For those who were blessed to know and love Greyson Huff, these marks of God’s presence in his life were clear and consistent. His infectious smile, kind spirit, and genuine warmth impacted the many who knew him as a beloved family member and friend.
Greyson Levi Butler Huff was born August 2, 2006, in Jackson, Mississippi, and left this earth for heaven on Friday, September 13, 2024. Greyson was an honors graduate of Brandon High School where he was a member of the cross country team and served on the crew for the Brandon High School show choir. Since August, Greyson had been attending Hinds Community College and held aspirations of pursuing a mechanical engineering degree at Mississippi State University. Greyson attended Crossgates Baptist Church in Brandon. In his spare time Greyson found joy in fishing, playing pickleball and disc golf with his friends, and serving the faith community through his work at Camp Tanglewood. Many of Greyson’s best times, however, were spent enjoying the freedom and sheer exhilaration found in riding his motorcycle up and down Mississippi roads.
Some grow old being reshaped by pressure, or expectations, or through circumstances in life. They adopt roles others wish for them to choose or personalities that seem more acceptable. Not Greyson. He was unique, unafraid to be himself, embracing his youthful innocence, creative play and exploration because he loved life. Life was always an adventure, and he was its lead scout! But his free spirit was not to be confused with random shallowness. He had a brilliant mind, was witty and magically creative. He was excited about his future and knew there was a purpose to it. In vocation and education, he was hard-working and diligent. To a friend he was loyal, trustworthy, and dependable. From his early youth, Greyson showed an uncommon level of respect for people of all ages. He was well grounded, a thoughtful, mindful, spiritual soul. He lived out his faith with readiness to extend a hand of service. Greyson loved God as he did others and will be remembered as a bearer of joy, affection, kindness, friendship and faithfulness.
Survivors include his mother, Laura Hillman Huff; father and second mom, Chris and Lee Ann Huff; sisters, Stella Rose and Ella; brothers, Brady, Eli, and Easton; grandparents, Buddy and Jennie Hillman, Bobby and Vickie Huff, and great grandmother, Charlotte Lange; as well as many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his cousin, Jackson Gealogo; grandparents, Elmer and Bobbie Hillman, Charles and Annie Dene Edgar, Warren Lange, Basil Huff, and Janice Huff; and an uncle, Schley Purvis.
Visitation for Greyson will be held at Crossgates Baptist Church in Brandon on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, from 11:30 am -1:45 pm followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to Camp Tanglewood in Greyson’s honor.
