Grover Samuel “Sammy” Hawthorne, 87, went home to be with the Lord Friday morning November 4, 2011 at 12:05 am. A lifelong resident of Rankin County, MS, Sammy was born on October 8, 1924 to the late Charles Allen and Emma Liza Webb Hawthorne. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a Master Mason and a member of Plain Lodge #622; and a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Richland where he was a Deacon. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and nothing made him happier than being with his family. His only wish was to live longer in order to lead someone else to the Lord. He loved to hunt, fish, and sing, but one of his greatest pleasures was playing his harmonicas for his church.

Sammy was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters and four brothers; and a son in law.
