Gwendolyn Warren Box, 86, known to all as Gwen, beloved wife of her late husband Kenneth of 33 years, departed this earth on the afternoon of March 3, 2021. In her wake, she leaves a legacy of joy and love that touched her many friends and family.
Gwen married Kenneth Box in 1981 and blended their families together. Both were devout Christians. They eventually retired to the Brandon area where they were long-time members of Crossgates Baptist Church and were active in various ministries and senior activities. During their marriage they enjoyed gardening and taking numerous trips and cruises with their many friends. In her later years she enjoyed the fellowship of the Red Hats, her Prime Timers, keeping up with friends by telephone, and “neighborhood garage sitting.”
Gwen was born in Jackson, Mississippi, to Benjamin and Lollie Warren and spent her entire life in the Jackson area. Gwen graduated from Central High School and later from Southwestern College in Memphis, TN. She enjoyed a successful career in the medical records field starting at St. Dominic’s Hospital. She later transferred her talents to Hinds Junior (Community) College in Raymond, MS to train future medical record technicians. She finished her career as a Health Information Management consultant for the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center.
Gwen is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her brother Hugh Warren, Jr.; three sisters Electra Campbell, Frances Barlow, and Hattie McClain; her son Eugene Box; and grandson Matthew Pope. She is survived by her children Warren Green (Diane), Mark Green (Leanne), Ellen Fulton (Mark), Patrice Box, and Doug Box (Gwen); grandchildren Ryan Green, Kara Green, Hailey Fulton (Patrick), Hunter Fulton, Corban Green, Jodie Adams (Steve), Amanda Steele (Todd), Stephanie Box (Tony), Tyler Box, Hayden Hudson (Lydia), and Carson Box; and two great grandchildren.
A memorial service will take place at 2:00pm on Monday, March 29, 2021, at Ott & Lee funeral home in in Brandon, MS. Visitation will proceed the service beginning at 1:00pm.
