Funeral services for Mrs. Gwin Whatley, age 72, retired educator, and longtime resident of Forest were conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 23, 2017 from the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the Homewood Methodist Cemetery. Funeral services were provided by Ott & Lee Funeral Home of Forest..
Visitation was held on Saturday from 9:00 am – 10:45 am at the funeral home prior to the service.
Mrs. Whatley was born on Friday, December 22, 1944 to her parents Clyde and Margaret Massey Crimm at the Scott County Hospital in Morton. She passed away, Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at her home in Forest. Remembered for her passion for learning and the profession of education, Mrs. Whatley impacted the lives of students in the school systems which she taught, respectively Burns, Taylorsville, Forest, and Newton. As for her family, she traveled many miles with her late husband, Bernie, and loved her son and her grandchildren and the sporting events they participated in, being a loyal supporter. She was a Christian by faith and a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years: Bernie Whatley, Jr. and her father: Clyde Crimm.
Survivors include her only son: Watt (Paula) Whatley of Brandon; her mother: Mrs. Margaret Massey Crimm of Forest; five grandchildren: Anna Kathryn, Alison and Bo Whatley; Madelyn and Will Freeman; one brother: Lee (Mary Ann) Crimm of Forest; three nieces: Beth Bell Foreman and Lee Anna Crimm, both of Forest; and Nichole Robinson of Brandon; and two canine companions: Sassy and Lily Rose.
