Harold Daigre, Sr.

August 17, 1927 — April 11, 2012

Harold L. Daigre, Sr., age 84, a resident of the Homewood community died Wednesday morning April 11, 2012 surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness.


Funeral services were conducted at 1pm Friday April 13, 2012 from the Forest United Methodist Church with interment in the Homewood Methodist Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5pm to 8 pm Thursday at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home of Forest. Rev. Paul McDonald, Rev. Marshall Daigre and Rev. Hal Daigre officiated.



Mr. Daigre was born in Scott County on August 17, 1927. He served his country in the United States Army. Later he worked for the Illinois Central Railroad where he retired in 1987. Mr. Daigre was a faithful member of the Forest United Methodist Church. He was known by everyone as always having a piece of candy for everyone whom he met at church. He was a member of the local American Legion. Mr. Daigre was also an avid gardener, loved the outdoors and nature. His kindness and gentle nature along with that friendly smile will be a loss for everyone who knew him.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis H. Daigre and Lula Gardner Daigre, three brothers, Cleveland Daigre, Dennis Daigre, Felix Daigre, and a sister Odessa Goza.


Mr. Daigre is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bettye Joe Tadlock Daigre of Homewood, one son Rev. Hal Daigre (Cindy) of Decatur, AL., daughter Tenia D. Hawkins (Shawn) of Forest, MS., three sisters, Ruth Standard, Joan Knipfer and Mary Miles all of Pearl, MS., and a legacy of six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.


Pallbearers were Rev. Marshall Daigre, Dr. Justin Daigre, Ricky Foreman, Bubba Daigre, Chris Tadlock and Richard McRaney. Honorary pallbearers were the Austin Hunt Sunday School Class of the Forest United Methodist Church.


Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Forest United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were provided by Ott & Lee Funeral Home of Forest.
