SERVICES: 11 AM SATURDAY AT MEADOW GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH
VISIT: 5-8 PM FRIDAY AT OTT AND LEE
PRIVATE FAMILY BURIAL
G.H. Graves of Brandon went to be with his Lord on September 26 after a short illness. Hayes was born January 2, 1924 to the late William J. Graves and Eliza P. Graves of Puckett. Visitation is 5-8 pm Friday, September 27, 2013 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. A memorial service will be held at 11 am Saturday at Meadow Grove Baptist Church with a celebration of life with friends and family afterwards in the fellowship hall. There will be a private family burial.
Hayes was preceded in death by his first wife of 60 years, Fannie Merle Graves, his parents, 3 brothers and 6 sisters.
Hayes proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII and saw action in the Pacific while on board the USS Houston. After returning home, Hayes started what would become a very successful construction company. He built many houses, schools, churches and banks in Rankin County. When Hayes had retired from the construction business, he was elected Chairman of the Board of Rankin County Bank and led RCB's interests in the merger with Trustmark Bank.
Hayes enjoyed being a member of the Brandon Lions Club and in 1992 was designated a Melvin Jones Fellow by Lions International. He was a member of the USS Houston Association and served the group as treasurer and chaplain. He served on many advisory boards throughout the metro Jackson area. Hayes was an active member of Meadow Grove Baptist Church where he was a greeter. He never met a stranger and was always concerned with an individual's relationship with The Lord.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Carolyn Graves; son Gib (Allyn) Graves of Fernandina Beach, Florida; daughter Kathy (Rush) Miller of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania; grandchildren John (Sallie) Graves of Atlanta, Georgia; Will (Ashley) Graves of Yulee, Florida; Katie Graves of Fernandina Beach, Florida; Ginny (Jim) Roth of Pompano Beach, Florida; Megan Wylie of Brandon; Hart Wylie of Brandon; 4 great grandchildren, Ian and Cooper Graves, Sam Graves, and Madeleine Wylie; sister Billie Cook of McComb; and many nieces and nephews
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meadow Grove Baptist Church, Brandon, MS building fund.
