Hazel Kathryn Mashburn, 86, passed away Tuesday night, August 2, 2011 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, TN. Visitation will be 8:30am Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS, with a funeral service following at 10am in the chapel. Interment will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Mashburn was a graduate of Central High School in Jackson, MS and Millsaps College. Mrs. Mashburn was the widow of Troy Mashburn with whom she spent almost 62 years. As an English and Spanish teacher for 18 years, at Brandon Junior and Senior High Schools as well as at Brandon Academy, she garnered several awards because of her love of teaching and her students. She, along with her husband, was a founding member of Brandon Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Fr. Troy (Pamela) Mashburn, Jr. and Timothy (Deb) Mashburn; six grandchildren, Timothy (Marti) Mashburn, Kate Mashburn, Erin (Christian) Moulton, Hannah (Fr. Matthew) Snowden, Troy (Taya) Mashburn, and Sarah (Joel) Finley; six great-grandchildren; one nephew, Troy Luther (Suzanne) Mashburn; two nieces, Levy Jane Dutsch and Mary Lou Mashburn; a great-niece, Ellen (Ben) Beasley; a great nephew, Troy Ryan Mashburn; and a great-great-niece.
The family requests that any memorials be made to the Brandon Baptist Church Building Fund.
