Mrs. Helen S. Mangum, age 92, a resident of the Wicker Mill Community passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Rolling Acres Retirement Center in Raleigh, MS. Visitation was held 5-8pm Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest. Funeral service was held 11am Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at the Ott & Lee Chapel in Forest with burial in Luther Chapel Cemetery. Rev. Doyle Boyles officiated the services. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.
Mrs. Mangum was born in Cleveland, OH on May 11, 1921. She worked for the Dept. of Justice as a stenographer and was a Police lady in Washington, DC. Helen’s love of music started at a young age when she was a member of the Kirk Jr. High Marching Band in 1936 and she also loved playing the piano at church. She loved to travel and work crossword puzzles. Helen also believed that a, “Real Woman,” wore white gloves. She loved her family very much and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George Ethelbert Squire and Ida Lucetta Rhodes Squire; husband, Edgar Howorth Mangum; son, James “Jim” Edgar Mangum; sisters, Isabel Almassy and Edith Ann Squire and brother George Richard Squire.
She is survived by her 3 children, Katherine Susan Moore of Raleigh, John Mangum and wife, Mary of Burns and George Squire Mangum and wife Carmelita of Wicker Mill community; sister, Mary Louisa Noble of Fairfax, VA; 7 grandchildren, Jason Mangum, Adam Mangum, Nikki Thompson, David Mangum, Kelli Applegate, Eric Moore and Brian Moore; 4 step grandchildren, Lloyd Richardson, Lacy Yates, Erica Loutzenhiser and Robert Richardson; 11 great grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers were Eric Moore, Brian Moore, Randy Harrison, Adam Mangum, Dean Applegate, Steve Mangum and Jason Mangum.
Memorials may be made in her honor to the Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital, in honor of Miller Moore, a survivor of Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, and a great grandchild of Helen S. Mangum.
