Helen Katherine Gillespie Welsh, age 96, a resident of Forest died Sunday September 30, 2012 at Lackey Hospital in Forest.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30pm Tuesday October 2, 2012 from the Eastern Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1pm to 2pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.
Helen was born July 5, 1916 in Stonewall, KY to Margaret and Albert Gillespie. She grew up in Georgetown, KY. Moved to Walton, KY living there until she joined the Womans Army Corp in 1941 serving until the end of WWII in 1945. She served time in New Guinea and the Philippines.
She met and married Nicholas Welsh in 1947 in Walton, KY. They were both employed by the State of Kentucky until retirement. In 1982, they moved to Forest, MS. She was a member of Hillcrest Independent Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, John Welsh and brother Lee Gillespie.
Mrs. Welsh is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Adkins of Williamstown, KY and Linda Mason of Florence, KY. , and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
