Helen Ruth Burgess Carter, 87, of Pelahatchie, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord on July 13, 2021. Donnie Stuart. Pallbearers will be grandsons Drew Carter, Josh Carter, Reed Carter, and Ben Carter and nephews Stacy Stevens and Shane Carter. Interment will be at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Ruth was born in the Antioch Community to Arthur and Annice Burgess on April 8, 1934. She graduated Puckett High School with the class of 1952. She married James Roy Carter on December 20, 1958. They were happily married for 62 years. Ruth was a devoted mother to her three boys, James Douglas, Don Burgess and Chris Patrick. A lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church, her capacity for kindness towards others was without limit. She knew how to “work a room” with her unique sense of humor and had a gift for making everyone feel loved. She was widely known as an excellent cook, and a visit to her home not only meant a delicious meal, but also plates full of food to take home to enjoy later.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Annice Burgess.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Jimmy; her children, Doug (Wendy), Don (Penny), and Chris (Michelle); her grandchildren, Drew, Josh, Reed, Ben, Anna Grace, and Leah Kathryn; and her sister, Shirley Burgess Stevens.
The family thanks the staff at Mississippi Care Center of Morton for their patient and compassionate care.
Memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 2350 Hwy. 43 S, Brandon, MS 39042.
