Helon Sumrall

May 25, 1929 — August 9, 2016

Helon G. Sumrall, 87, a resident of Pelahatchie, MS passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. Funeral services will be held 2 pm Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS with the interment at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be held from 12:30 until 1:45 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Dr. Martin Hayden and Rev. Bill Rice will officiate the services. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS.

Mrs. Sumrall was a native of Scott County. She was the daughter of Doc and Effie Johnston Gunn. She was married to James Lee Sumrall. Mrs. Sumrall was a caregiver for many years working with children and impacting the lives she came in contact with. She loved spending her time with the children she dearly loved. She was a member of Briarwood Baptist Church in Jackson, MS. She loved her family and spending time with them brought great joy to her life. She will be missed by all who loved and knew her.

Mrs. Sumrall was preceded in death by her husband, James Lee Sumrall; parents, Doc and Effie Johnston Gunn; son, James Houston Sumrall; her daughter, Dian Sumrall Lifer and her brother, Harlon Gunn.

Mrs. Sumrall is survived by her children, George W. (Sandra) Sumrall of Huntsville, AL, Jenny Graves of Birmingham, AL; sister, Sue Lawrence of Pelahatchie, MS; four grandchildren, Joe (Sally Ann) Sumrall, Jon (Ginny) Sumrall, Faith (Chris) Gardner and Michael (Bridgette) Lifer; nine great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
