Hendrix Othello Gilbert, age 81, a resident of Canton died Tuesday March 11. 2014 at Madison River Oaks Medical Center in Canton following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3pm Saturday March 15, 2014 at High Hill Methodist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will also be held on Saturday from 1pm-2:30pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home of Forest. Rev Gene Banes will officiate.
Mr. Gilbert was born in Sun, MS on June 20, 1932 to his parents Otho Gilbert and Annie Laura Gaskin Gilbert.
He was a Methodist. He proudly served in the Navy as a Master Chief Petty Officer. After his tenure in the Navy, he worked in the Public School System.
Mr. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Laura Lois Gilbert a son; Robert Todd Gilbert.
Survivors include his daughter Pamela Gilbert Strickland of Montgomery, AL one brother ; Gerald Newcomb. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Gay, Tommy Cieglo, Brent Gay, Joseph Cieglo, Ricky Wilkerson, and Will Chambers. Honorary pallbearers are Don Gilbert, Weems Gilbert, Tommy Gilbert, Walter Mack Burns and Hi Sorey.
