Henry Jackson

Henry Jackson, 86, a resident of Jackson, Mississippi passed away on October 6, 2015 at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center.

Henry was born September 20, 1929, in Yazoo County, Mississippi. He was the eldest of five children born to Clarence Jackson and Odessa McCullough Jackson. He spent his childhood and adolescent years in Bentonia, Mississippi.

Henry served in the United States Army from 1954-1956 with the 984th Engineering Company (Field Maintenance) as a personnel specialist in Kaiserslautern, Germany.

Henry’s Career spanned 28 years with Amoco Oil Company (now known as BP) being transferred and serving in various positions in numerous states throughout the southeastern part of the United States. Having always wanted to be in business for himself, Henry retired from Amoco in 1980 and started Jackson Petroleum Company as Amoco’s jobber in the Jackson area. After eight years in business he retired in 1988 at the age of 59.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Clarence Jackson, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Hartness Jackson of Jackson, MS; two sisters, Wilma Jackson Harper of Laurel, MS and Katherine Jackson McPherson of Pearl, MS; several nieces, a nephew, numerous cousins and a host of friends. He is also survived by his two sisters-in-law, Pattie Hartness Nolan and her husband Louie of Brandon, MS and Peggie Hartness Harris of Fort Mill, South Carolina.

Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS with Rev. Gayden Harrell officiating. Visitation will be held from 11-11:45 am Saturday. The interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, MS.
