Henry Measells

Henry Wyatt Measells, III, 76, passed away on March 27, 2022, at his Forest home. He was born on Oct. 12, 1946, to Henry Wyatt, II ,and Christine Walker Measells.

Henry graduated from Forest High School in 1964. He was active in 4-H, winning many ribbons showing cows, chickens, and pigs. He attended East Central Junior College and Mississippi State University, where he majored in poultry science. Henry worked in the poultry industry in Georgia, Maryland, Arkansas, and Mississippi for many years.

Henry loved to “tinker” and always had many projects going at once. And he also loved to tell a good story -never revealing if it was true or not- it was all about the story telling. He got great pleasure in telling his tall tales to his many nieces and nephews.

In a family history written years ago, our mother wrote that Henry was “a little serious, but happy wherever he was, and a dedicated farmer. He was a big prankster with his brothers and sisters, always the bossy big brother.” There are many tales to share on Henry’s “adventures” on the family farm.

Henry traveled all over the United States as a truck driver and tour bus driver. But no matter where Henry traveled, he was happiest on the family farm.

He was preceded in death by his parents Henry Wyatt, II and Christine Walker Measells.

He is survived by his two children, Henry Wyatt, IV (Maureen) of Haymarket, VA, and Kristina Measells Hardy (Chip) of Eugene, OR; two granddaughters, Isibeal and Abigal Measells of VA; his two brothers, Mike Measells (Marianna) of New Braunfels, Texas and Eric Measells (Lesa) of Pinehurst, NC; two sisters, Nancy Measells Mills (Pete) of Madison, MS and Martha Measells Bland (Roger) of Tupelo, MS and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, April 1, 2022, from 2:00 to 3:00 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Forest MS. A graveside service will be held at 4:00 at the Leesburg Cemetery, in Leesburg, MS. All are invited
