Henry Verman Phillips was born in Smith County on August 20, 1935 and passed away January 9, 2016 at the MS Care Center at Raleigh at the age of 80.
Mr. Phillips was a native and lifelong resident of the Polkville community and retired as an engineer from the city of Jackson. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the Grace and Truth Worship Center at Puckett. He was a family man who especially loved his granddaughters. Many times junk hunting and working on bicycles occupied his time, but you could find him often piddling at his antique business, The Beard O Field. Peddling watermelons and sweet potatoes kept him busy also, as did whittling walking canes, special time remembered by his wife and son.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Merley & Clemmer Phillips, and three brothers: A.L., Earl, & Cecil.
Survivors include his wife of over 58 years: Mrs. Anita Phillips of Polkville; one son: Rev. Marvin (Sandra) Phillips of Polkville; three granddaughters: Vanessa (Trey) Moore, Grace (Isaac) Powell, and Tracie (Frank) Adcock; three great-grandchildren: Madison Moore, Noah Powell, and Hannah Powell; one brother: Opal (Janell) Phillips of Brandon; and several nieces and nephews.
