Mr. Herbert Cooper, age 92, a resident of Morton passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at MS Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation was held 5:30pm-9:00pm Friday, May 4, 2012 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton. Funeral service was held 11am Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Springfield Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Dr. Kevin Cooper, Rev. Dusty Rhodes and Rev. Julius Thompson officiated the services. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.

Mr. Cooper was born in Scott County on September 10, 1919. He was a veteran of WWII. He served in the Army 97th field artillery for 3 years in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Morton VFW post. Mr. Cooper served as Deacon Emeritus at Springfield Baptist Church and was a farmer all his life. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Cooper; brothers, Carl, Ectus, Troy, Gary and Thurman Cooper; sisters, Ruth Winstead, Odessa Lingle, Ruby Measells and Daisy Waters.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Oleta Thompson Cooper of Morton; daughter, Cindy Vardaman (Tal) of Morton; grandson, Jared Vardaman ; sister, Dorothy Wheeler (Joe) of Morton and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Leon Dye, Danny Cooper, Dwight Cooper, Doye Gene Poole, Bill Fowler, Jeffrey Huggins and Lyndell Easterling. Honorary pallbearers were the Deacons at Springfield Baptist Church.
