Herman Manuel Gaskin, age 78, and longtime resident of Smith County, Goodwater community, passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021 under the care and supervision of the staff of Brandon Nursing and Rehab, Brandon.
Mr. Gaskin was a graduate of Burns High School, Burns, and completed one year of course work at Jones Junior College, Ellisville. A retired switchman for the railroad industry, Mr. Gaskin will be remembered for his love of fishing at Lake Washington, hunting in the acreage of Smith County and gardening at his homeplace, with a matter of fact demeanor of being in charge. He was a longtime member of Goodwater Baptist Church, where he served the church family as deacon.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Clifton Irvin and Laura Elizabeth Peevey Gaskin.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years: Mrs. Betty Thornton Gaskin; three children, Melita Gaskin, Jeff Gaskin, and Yolanda (Michael) Stuart, all of Forest; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters: Barbara Traxler of Forest and Marylyn Wiggins of Pineville; several nieces and nephews also survive.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Goodwater Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
