Hilda Martin, 78, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Crossgates River Oaks Hospital in Brandon. Visitation is 5-8 pm today at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Services are 11 am Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Crossgates United Methodist Church with burial at 3 pm Wednesday at Felder Cemetery near Summit.
Mrs. Martin was a native of the Enon Community in Walthall County and a longtime resident of Rankin County. She was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church, most recently serving at Crossgates United Methodist Church. One of her special ministries was being very supportive of her husband, Rev. Lamar Martin, who served as a pastor for many years. During those years, she was involved in church choir, served as a
Sunday School Teacher, worship committee chairman and wedding coordinator. She loved her family, and had a very special place in her heart for her grandchildren.
Mrs. Martin retired as a public school teacher with the Rankin County School District at Brandon Middle School. She also taught for Hinds County, Yazoo City Schools, Picayune School District and Northwest Rankin Schools.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Lamar Martin of Brandon; daughter, Vicki Mercier and husband Tom of Brandon; son, Kenneth Martin and wife Laurie of Brandon; brother, Rev. Donald O’Quin and wife Harriett of Lambert; grandchildren, Chris and Jonathan Ebelhar of Brandon and Ashley Ramsay and husband Justin of Portland, Oregon; great grandchild, Bentlee Kade Tavares-Ebelhar of Kosciusko.
