Bruce Lambright of Brandon, Ms., died peacefully at home surrounded by his family at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, following a valiant battle against cancer. He was 64. Funeral Services are 2pm. Sun. Nov. 18, 2012 at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS with burial to follow in the Crestview Memorial Gardens in Brandon, MS. Visitation will be held Sat. Nov. 17, 2012 from 5pm.-8pm. at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS.
Born in DeRidder, La., on May 26, 1948, and named Huey Bruce Lambright for his father, he was known to all who knew and loved him as Bruce _ a wonderful soul who loved his Lord, adored his family and had a youthful passion for sports, the romance of the railroads and his faithful German Shepherd.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carla Lambright of Brandon, daughter Haley Lambright (Joseph) Lee of Madison, Ms., and son Barton Lambright, of Brandon. Other survivors include: mother Annie Ruth Lambright of Woodworth, La.; brothers Bobby (Connie) of Houston, Tx., Larry of Alexandria, La., Charles (Patsy) of LeCompte, La., and Ronnie of Woodworth, La: sisters Patricia Doyle of Woodworth, La., and Linda (Gary) Johnson of Woodworth, La.;three aunts and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins. Bruce also counted his many friends as family.
Bruce was a member of the last graduating class of LeCompte, La., High School in 1966. That same year he joined the Air Force. He had been a resident of Rankin County since December, 1977, and had retired from the Yellow Freight System.
A lifelong Baptist, Bruce was active at Trinity Baptist Church during the years his family lived in Pearl, Ms. The family later moved to Brandon and attended Meadow Grove Baptist Church for over 20 years. More recently, he attended Pinelake Baptist Church, also in Brandon.
Bruce loved his sports, _ especially baseball and in particular the New York Yankees. His eyes sparkled as he recounted the day he caught a foul ball off Don Mattingly’s bat in Yankee Stadium. Bruce was fortunate enough to attend major league baseball games at storied stadiums across the U.S. and Canada. He also enjoyed traveling, often including rides on rustic railroads on the family agenda.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the dedication and support of Bruce’s medical team, especially Drs. Bobby Wilkerson and Phillip Ley and their staffs; Jackson Oncology Group and the nurses at Baptist Hospital; and the staff at Interventional Radiology.
Pallbearers will be nephews Chris Lambright, Nick Magnano, Justin Doyle, Landon Johnson, Adam White and Jody Adams
