Mr. Hugh Luther Gray, age 93, a resident of Brandon passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at his residence. Visitation was held 10am-12pm Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Graveside services and burial were held 1:30pm Saturday at Crossroads Baptist Cemetery. Bro. Keith Grubbs and Bro. John Vaughn officiated the services. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon.
Mr. Gray was born in Rankin County on March 12, 1922. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish, quail and dove hunt. Hugh loved to play cards and enjoyed woodworking. Hugh enjoyed taking walks and traveling with his wife, Allie Lou. He worked as a shipping clerk for Union Fork and Hoe for 35 years and also was the owner of Hugh Gray Grocery for many years. Hugh loved his family very much and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Allie Lou Daniel Gray of Brandon; nephews, Vinson Gray, Huey Harpe, Danny Gray, Donald Irby, Dee Gray and Roger Gray; nieces, Gaile Russell (James) and Janie Gray; many other nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Luther Gray and Bettie Gilmore Gray; sister, Marie Gray Irby; brothers, Anse, Clarence, Durwood “Dee” and Albert “Pep” Gray.
Pallbearers were Danny Gray, Vinson Gray, Donald Irby, Dewitt Langston, Michael Russell and Clay Calhoun. Honorary pallbearer was Glynn Daniel.
