Hugh "Butch" Latimer

Hugh Wayne (Butch) Latimer, 71, of Jackson passed away
Saturday,September 29, 2012, at home. He was surrounded by loving family members.
He was born on November 18, 1940, in Philadelphia, son of Hugh and Amy Latimer. On August 20, 1961, he married his sweetheart of Sigma Chi, Pequita Franklin Latimer, with whom he grew up. Their 51-year marriage was blessed by three daughters and four wonderful grandchildren, and filled with love and happiness. Without Pequita, Hugh knew he would often have been as lost as a ball in tall weeds. He touched the lives of many as he was touched and loved by Pequita.
Hugh was a graduate of Philadelphia High School and of Mississippi State University, where he was in the Army ROTC. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and a life-long Sig. He served as a special agent, Army Intelligence and Security, with the rank of Captain. He served on the Board of Aldermen in Philadelphia, Mississippi, from 1969 to 1977. He was the charter president of the Neshoba County Jaycees. He was the chair of the Dean’s, Advisory Council, Arts and Sciences, MSU, for 10 years and received the Alumnus of the Year for Arts and Sciences in 2000. He was a retired Senior Vice President to Deposit Guaranty National Bank. Hugh had a life-long love of music and played in the Jackson Symphonic Band and many other bands over the last 40 years.
Hugh is survived by his wife Pequita; by his daughters Michele Latimer Caldwell and her husband Kevin, Melissa Latimer, and Melinda
Latimer Peoples and her husband Jeff; and by four grandchildren, Wesley Latimer Caldwell ,Austin Taylor Caldwell and his wife Katie, Avery Elizabeth Caldwell and Montgomery G. Peoples.
From Hugh: “You will sense my presence – maybe a warm wind,an unusually blue sky day, a touch to your neck. You will know and I will continue to love you.”
There will be a visitation at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon on Monday October 1,2012 from 4pm to 6pm . A memorial service for Hugh and a celebration of a life well lived with love and respect for others will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Philadelphia, Mississippi, on Tuesday October 2, 2012 at 3:30pm. Visitation will be held from 2pm till service time.
Memorials may be sent to the Reservoir Vol. Fire Dept. or the First United Methodist Church of Philadelphia, Ms.
