Funeral services for Mr. Hulon H. Smith will be conducted at 2 pm on Saturday, July 8, 2017 from the Clifton Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Henry, Rev. Marshall Lum, and Rev. Charles Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Clifton Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.
Visitation will be on Friday, July 7, 2017 from 5-8 pm at the funeral home and on Saturday beginning at 1 pm at the church prior to the funeral service.
Hulon Harmon Smith was born in Smith County at Burns on September 25, 1938 and passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson at the age of 78.
An avid farmer, in general, Mr. Smith enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting as along as his health permitted. He was a family man who loved his grandchildren very much. He was a retired employee of Sara Lee Bakery, and also a retired heavy equipment operator for MDOT. He was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents: John Jasper and Lillie Mae Ingram Smith; one granddaughter: Latasha Smith Whatley; and two brothers: Bill Smith and Otis Smith.
Survivors include his wife: Carol Winstead Smith of Forest; six children: Neal Smith, Dianne Walters, Mandy (Frank) McDonald, and John Michael (Britta) Smith, all of Laurel; Pamela Johnson (Tim) Smith of Forest; and Amy J. Johnson of Seaford, DE; one sister: Hazel Hallman of Pearl; 22 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Perkins, Frank McDonald, Tim Smith, Zach May, Will Kennedy, Jason Gregory, Kevin Winstead, and Eric Traxler.
Honorary Pallbearers will be W.J. Shoemaker, Mike Crawford, Abe Morris, Phil Rascoe, Gary Pettigrew, Parnell Ross, and James Crain.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Building Fund, 4340 Hillsboro-Ludlow Rd., Forest, MS 39074.
