Idella “Dell” Charlotte Walling Hankins, 92, died Monday, May 02, 2016 at Plainview Assisted Living in Richland, MS. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 3, 2016 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, May 4, 2016 from 10:30 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. Chapel Service at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Burial will follow in Brandon Memorial Gardens.
Dell was born on May 12, 1923 at Greenfield, near Brandon, MS to the late Carlisle “Carl” Ulysses and Ethel Hilma Johansen Walling. She graduated from Brandon High School and attended Hinds Junior College and Millsaps College. She retired from the Rankin County Welfare Department. She was a member of Brandon First United Methodist Church, where she had been a former Sunday School teacher. She was a former president of the Brandon Garden Club and a member of the Gerard C. Brandon chapter of the D.A.R.
Dell was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard Hankins; her grandchildren, Lindsey Burnham, James “Jay” Searcy, and Mack Searcy; her son-in-law, Buddy Searcy; her brother, Oscar Walling; and her sister, Hilma McDonald.
Survivors include her daughters, Charlotte (Skip) Burnham of Brandon, Ginger Searcy of Puckett, and Patty (Jeff) Boone of Magee; grandchildren, Dan Burnham, Leigh McBride, Jeffrey Boone, and Maura (Andy) Anderson; great-grandchildren, Madison McBride, Cass Garner, Eli Boone, Cade Anderson, Anna Grace Anderson, and Addison Anderson; and brother, Harry (Resa) Walling of Polkville, MS.
The family request memorials be made to Brandon First United Methodist Church or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The family would also like to express their heartfelt thanks to employees of Plainview Assisted Living and St. Joseph Hospice for their caring love and support.
