Ira Rupert Kynerd, 85, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2014 at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, MS. Visitation will start at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 16, 2014, until the 3 pm service at Crossgates United Methodist Church in Brandon, MS. Graveside services will be 1:30 pm MONDAY, February 17, 2014 at Natchez Trace Memorial Park in Madison, MS. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS.
Ira Rupert Kynerd, son of Johnson Rudolph Kynerd and Meddie Lodi Chisholm, was born in May 23, 1928. He enlisted in the United States Army on October 2, 1946 and retired with the Mississippi National Guard in 1988. He and his wife Geraldine have recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. Ira was a member of Crossgates United Methodist Church and was among the United Methodist Men.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Ella Kynerd Shirley, Eloyse Kynerd Shirley, Alaine Kynerd Watkins; brothers, Johnson Rudolph(J.R.) Kynerd, JR .,Vernon Eric Kynerd, Elbert Kynerd and Kenneth Kynerd.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine I. Kynerd of Pearl, MS; sons, Stanley L. Kynerd and wife Pamela A. Kynerd of Brandon, MS and Dr. Robert E. Kynerd of Birmingham, AL; step children, Cindy Huerkamp and Tim Isbell; grandchildren, Paul Alexander Kynerd, Shannon LeeAnn Kynerd, Josh and Tyler Huerkamp and Patrick Isbell; sisters, Joyce Kynerd Creel and Elizabeth Kynerd Goldman; brothers, Calvin Kynerd and Charles Oren Kynerd.
