Irma Mayes

Funeral services for Mrs. Irma M. Mayes will be conducted Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11:00 am from the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bowman Giles officiating. Interment will follow in the Salem Cemetery under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.
Music for the service will be provided by Mr. Larry Rigby.
Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 am – 10:45 am at the funeral home.
Irma Jewell McMillan was born December 29, 1929 to her parents: Ephraim A. and Lydia Pearl Williamson McMillan. She passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017 at the Madden Lighthouse at the age of 87.
Mrs. Mayes was a faithful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who will be remembered for the love she had for her family and friends. A lady of hospitality and gracious manners, Mrs. Irma Jewell enjoyed cooking and providing for those she welcomed in her home. Gardening, fishing, and tending to her flowers were favorite past times. As retired bookkeeper, Mrs. Mayes especially enjoyed the privilege of working with her sisters at Sorey Tire Company. Attendance to her church, Liberty Baptist, where she was a member, every time the church doors were open was utmost priority to her.
She is preceded in death by her husband: Bill O. Mayes, who passed away August 24, 2016; her parents; three sisters: Velma Woods, Clois Rigby, and Ruth Eichelberger; and five brothers: Robert McMillan, Emmitt McMillan, Clarence “Buster” McMillan, O.Z. McMillan, and J.T. McMillan.
Survivors include her son: Billy G. (Jill) Mayes of Oxford; one granddaughter: Misty Leigh Mayes Murphy, and her husband, Ben of Southaven; three great-grandchildren: Leighton Reese Murphy, Quinn David Murphy, and Foley McLaurin Murphy; two sisters: Blanche Sorey and Maude (Bennie) Ware, both of Forest; and an host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Sorey, Ryan Sorey, Cody Sorey, Greg Ware, Stephen Myers and Kent Mayes.
Memorial donations may be made to the Madden Lighthouse, P.O. Box 8, Madden, MS 39109.
