Jack H. Carpenter, Pearl, MS
Jack Howard Carpenter, 81, went to be with the Lord on Wed. Sept. 7, 2011 at the Jaquith Nursing Home in Pearl, MS. Visitation will be held Fri. Sept. 9, 2011 from 5pm.-8pm. at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Graveside Services will be held 3pm. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011 at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Clarksdale, MS.
Born in Charleston, MS to a sharecropper family of 10 brothers and sisters, Mr. Carpenter was drafted into the Army where he served in the 7th Infantry Division during the Korean War as a sergeant and received the Bronze Star Medal of Honor. After serving in the war he returned to Clarksdale where he married. Mr. Carpenter worked for the Ford Motor Co. as a mechanic, and later owned his own repair shop. He joined the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Dept. as a Deputy, and later joined the Clarksdale Police Dept. where he earned the rank of Detective Sergeant. Mr. Carpenter also taught auto mechanics until his retirement. He then moved to Pearl, MS to spend time with his two grandchildren, Anna and Michael who were the loves of his life. His hobbies were hunting and fishing, and he was also a member of the VFW, Coahoma County Conservation League, Mississippi Law Enforcement Association, and the Lyon Baptist Church in Lyon, MS.
Mr. Carpenter is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jimmie Carpenter of Pearl, MS; his son, Tim Carpenter and his wife Daphne of Pearl, MS; one granddaughter, Anna Houston and her husband Joel of Petal, MS; one grandson, Michael Carpenter of Pearl, MS; his brother, T.R. Carpenter of Clarksdale, MS and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Mike Carpenter in 1973 and his daughter, Betty Dell Carpenter in 1998.
