Jack Johnson, age 88, a resident of Forest, died Tuesday February 2, 2016, at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center following a brief illness.
Funeral services were conducted at 11am Saturday, February 6, 2016, from the chapel of the Ott & Lee Funeral Home with interment in the Damascus Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5pm to 8pm Friday, February 5, 2016. Rev. Joey Smith, Rev. Reggie Williams and Rev. John Sharp officiated.
Mr. Johnson was born on July 13, 1927, in Scott County to his parents, William Oscar Johnson and Willie Mae Hartness Johnson. He was a lifelong resident of this area except for the time he served his country in the Navy. He was a longtime, faithful member of Steele Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. Mr. Johnson enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved the outdoors, gardening and visiting with friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, several siblings and his wife of 60 years, Claudene Sharp Johnson.
Survivors include two daughters: Pat Tew (Steve) and Janice Johnson, all of Forest. He also leaves behind two grand-daughters; Kim Round (Dale) of Conehatta and Connie Stewart (Ben) of Forest; four great-grandchildren: Eli Stewart, Ashlin Round, Emily Stewart and Ethan Round.
Pallbearers were Joe Sharp, David Sharp, Barry Sharp, Brad Gunter, Casey Sharp and Glynn Edwards. Honorary pallbearers were Jack Sharp, Sr. Steve Tew, Dale Round, Ben Stewart and Jack Sharp, Jr.
