Jacqueline Burnham Hughes, age 85, a lifelong resident of the Crossroads community died Wednesday, February 9, 2022, following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11am Saturday, February 12, 2022, from the chapel of the OTT & LEE Funeral Home in Morton. Visitation will be held before the service beginning at 10am at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Crossroads Baptist Cemetery.
She was born on September 27, 1936, in the Crossroads community where she was raised. She later attended Hinds Community College before marrying Ray Hughes on March 31, 1956. They were married for 57 years. During her career, Jackie worked for MS Valley Gas, the City of Pearl Water Department, Pearl High School, and the Pelahatchie Water Department. She was a long-time member of Crossroads Baptist Church and an avid Mississippi State fan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J.H. Burnham and Lettie Huff Burnham, husband, Ray Hughes, brother Randy Burnham, and a sister Linnie Everett.
Survivors include her son, Terry Hughes (Anna), daughter, Penny Hughes Keen (Kenny); a sister, Maxine “Mackie” Stewart (James); a legacy of 5 grandchildren, Corey Hughes (Lindsay), Megan Hughes Guess (John), Darby Hughes, Dustin Keen (Darah), and Kristen Keen Tullos (Ty); and 11 great-grandchildren, Elijah Guess, Jaxsen Hughes, Landyn Hughes, Chloe Guess, Jayce Tullos, Lexi Hughes, Mia Guess, Kaston Tullos, Jude Guess, and Lettie Ray Tullos.
Pallbearers are Lynn Everett, John Everett, Chad Stewart, John Guess, Elijah Guess, Don Davis and Barry Story.
The family would like to thank Heart of Hospice nurse Yana Knight, and the rest of the Heart of Hospice staff for their compassionate care of our loved one.
