James W. “J” Atkins, 85, went to be with his heavenly Father on July 3, 2012 at the Jackson VA Medical Center. Visitation is Thursday, July 5, 2012 from 5 – 7 pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Richland, MS. Funeral Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Richland on Friday, July 6, 2012 at 10 am with burial to follow in Lakewood Memorial Park South in Jackson, MS.
James “J” was a resident of Richland, MS for most of his adult life. He was employed at Mississippi Products, Inc. before he became disabled. His favorite pastimes were gardening, fishing, and building or repairing almost anything. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Richland.
J. leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Varnie Mae Atkins of Richland; one son, Jeff Atkins (Sandy) of Clinton, MS, two daughters, Linda Cost (Tim) of Canton, MS and Nan Cockroft (Darrel) of Richland, MS; five grandchildren, Joshua, Wesley, and Regan Atkins and Haley and Courtney Cockroft; and one sister, Susie Esteves (Augie) of Kenner, LA; along with numerous numbers of nieces and nephews.
