Mr. James Courtney Jr., age 64, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his family.  His visitation will be held 5pm-8pm Sunday, August 12, 2018 at New Liberty Baptist Church.  Funeral services will be held 11am Monday, August 13, 2018 at New Liberty Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.  Bro. Paul Smith will officiate the services.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.

James was born in Louise, MS on March 20, 1954.  He was a man that was honest with his word.  James enjoyed being outdoors fishing and deer hunting.  He loved the Lord, his pastor and his church.  James was a hard worker and loved all the people he worked with.  He and his wife, Cathy had a resale shop where they sold garage sale items, but what he enjoyed the most was the friendships he made with all the people he came in contact with.  James loved his family and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Marion Courtney Sr. and Gracie Lee Jones Courtney; brother, Felix A. Courtney and sister-in-law, Dawn Courtney.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Cathy Irby Courtney of the Branch Community; 2 sons, James "Jamie" Courtney III (Cathy Hall) of Morton and Lee Irby Courtney (Tiphani) of Polkville; sister, Cecelia Carr (Wesley) of LA; brothers, Rufus Courtney (Marsha) of Belzoni and Jeffery Courtney of Louise; 4 grandchildren, James "JC" Courtney IV, Sherran Lillee Louise Courtney, Sierra Howell and Amber Howell; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers will be Wilbur McCurdy, Adam McCurdy, Cory Rawson, Paul Irby, Jimmy Turner and Mark Smith.

Memorials may be made in his honor and memory to Gideons International.
