James Cupit Sr.

Funeral services for Mr. James Cupit, Sr. will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 from the Ephesus Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Everett and Bro. Chris Harrison officiating. Interment will follow in the Ephesus Cemetery with military rites under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.
James Alfred Cupit was born in Bude on May 20, 1933 and passed away at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at the age of 83.
He was a longtime resident of Scott County and a faithful member of Ephesus Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Mr. James carried out his witness for Christ and love for others as often visited the sick, shut-ins, and local nursing homes.  He served his country in the National Guard and the U.S. Army, and was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans.
He is preceded in death by his son: James Cupit, Jr.; his parents: Henry and Alma Wallace Cupit; his step mother: Edith Cupit; and three brothers: Harold, Claude, and Lloyd Cupit.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years: Doris Perkins Cupit of Forest; one daughter: Charlotte (Kris) Mastorakos of Jackson; one sister: Dorothy Cupit of Meadville; three brothers: Carl (Audrey) Cupit of Meadville; Bobby (Madonna) Cupit of Silsbee, TX and Gerald (Donnis) Cupit of Monticello; seven granddaughters: Jessica Muirhead, Carrie Wolfe, Janet Koeder, Kristen Harris, Lindsay Cupit, Melina Mastorakos, and Mackenzie Mastorakos; eleven great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers include: Dennis Squires, Lamar Harrison, Leroy Callahan, Larry Driskell, Billy Everett, and Billy Walker.
Honorary Pallbearers include: Roquell Barber, Pete Riser, Kenneth Ray Robinson, Roger Bell, Truman Bell, Gary Bell, Ben Stewart,  Wayland Webb and the members of the Harrison & Riser Sunday School Class of Ephesus Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to Ephesus Baptist Church or the Ephesus Cemetery Fund, 3535 Ephesus Rd., Forest, MS 39074 or to the Gideons International, Inc., P.O. Box 804, Forest, MS 39074.
