James Harlan Durrett, 77, went to be with the Lord on Thurs. Feb. 5, 2015 at his home in Brandon, MS. Visitation will be held on Sat. Feb. 7, 2015 from 5pm-7pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Sun. Feb. 8, 2015 at the Crossgates United Methodist Church in Brandon, MS with visitation one hour before the service.
Mr. Durrett was born on Nov. 3, 1937 in Whitfield, MS and has been a resident of Brandon for the past 8 years after moving from South Jackson where he was a longtime resident. He was a member of the Crossgates United Methodist Church where he helped start the Hearts & Hands Ministry.
Mr. Durrett was a very hard working man starting his career in the paint business being employed with Pee Gee Paint Company (Devoe Paint) for 41 years. He enjoyed baseball in his younger age and he played on the Forest Hill High School and Millsaps College baseball teams. In 1955 he hit the winning homerun to win the State Championship in the American Legion League.
Mr. Durrett is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sue Durrett; his sons, Van Durrett (Pam) and Bruce Durrett (Tracy); 5 grandchildren, Billy Durrett, Lindsay Durrett, Becky Durrett, Adam Durrett and Zachary Durrett. He is also survived by several other family members and friends. Mr. Durrett is preceded in death by his parents, W. D & Myrtle Durrett and his 2 brothers, Royce & Douglas Durrett.
