James Eppstein

December 26, 1954 — April 9, 2016

James Charles Eppstein was born on December 26, 1954 to Michael F. Eppstein and Joyce Phillips Eppstein in Witchita Falls, Texas. Jim left for Heaven on April 9, 2016.


He was raised in Reseda, California and joined the United States Navy in 1970 and served our country as a First Class Torpedoman until 1978. Jim worked at First Chemical Corporation for approximately 20 years as an operator for their Safety Department Director. During his tenure, he became an EMT then went on to become a Paramedic graduating with a 4.0 GPA. Jim was awarded Mississippi Paramedic of the Year in 1994.


He was a Baptist by faith and a member of First Baptist Church in Long Beach.


Jim was the husband of Martha Marler Eppstein for 14 years. He is the father of April Eppstein Baughman, Kimberly Shirley Jones and Jason Shirley. He was the loved grandfather of Blake Jones, Seth Powell, Garet Jones, Andrew Powell, Kyla Shirley, Haley Powell, Kylee Brock, Jocelyn Shirley and Brittany Baughman.


Jim was preceded in death by his father: Michael F. Eppstein; mother; Joyce E. Eppstein; grandmother: Dorothy Petrocelli Phillips; grandfather: Charles Phillips; grandmother: Madelyn Eppstein and grandfather: Jerry Eppstein.


He is survived by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, four brothers: Dana, Mark, Tom, and Matthew, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.


There will be a memorial service on Friday morning, April 15, 2016 at 11:00 am from the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Forest, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service.



Jim was a blessing to all who knew him and will be dearly missed.
