James B. (JB) Johnson, Sr, age 86, and a resident of the Tuscola community, near Lena, MS died Sunday, September 20, 2020, following a brief illness.
He was born on Monday, July 30, 1934, the youngest of five children to C.L. Johnson, Sr. and Lucille Brantley Johnson, in Ofahoma, MS. The family moved to Jackson in 1946, and he graduated from Central High School in 1952. He attended USM in Hattiesburg and married Barbara Wright in 1954. He served his country in the Army from 1954-1957, stationed in Warrenton, Virginia. The Johnsons moved to Houston, TX, in 1957 where he began his career in the machine tool industry working for his brother-in-law at Sterling Metals. They returned to Mississippi in 1965 and made their home in Jackson, where he continued to work in machine tool sales and retired from Sivad, Corporation in 1996. They were members of Parkway Baptist Church in Jackson. Following his retirement and the death of his beloved wife, he re-located to the Tuscola community in 2018. He enjoyed riding his four-wheeler around the property, loved his family and enjoyed their visits. He will be greatly missed.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, Virginia Moak; three brothers, Durwood Johnson, C.L. Johnson, Jr., and Luther C. Johnson; and his wife of 62 years, Barbara Wright Johnson.
Survivors include his son James B. “Jim” Johnson and his wife, Sherri, of Byram, MS; two grandchildren, James M. “Matt” Johnson of Byram, MS; and Katie Johnson Armstrong; her husband. Jeff; and one great-grandchild, Caleb Matthew Armstrong, of Wynnewood, Oklahoma.
There will be a graveside service for the immediate family at Tuscola Cemetery on Wednesday afternoon, September 30, 2020. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Crosses Across America, 3300 Indiana Avenue, Suite C, Vicksburg, MS, 39180.
