James Elton Kirby, Pearl,MS


James Elton Kirby, 81, passed away Thurs. July 28, 2011 at the Crossgates River Oaks Hospital in Brandon, MS. Visitation will be held Fri. July 29, 2011 from 5pm.-8pm. at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral Services are 2pm. Sat. July 30, 2011 at the funeral home with interment to follow in the Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, MS.

Mr. Kirby was born in Neshoba County, MS, lived most of his life in South Jackson where he was a former member of the Woodville Heights Baptist Church, and moved to Pearl, MS in 1999 where he is a member of Park Place Baptist Church in Brandon, MS. He was a United States Air Force Veteran serving overseas in Korea. Mr. Kirby was a sales representative for Monroe Calculating Machine Company from 1964-1972 where he and his fellow employees won a National Achievement Branch Award for the United States and Canada. He also did accounting work for several businesses in Jackson, MS, he was the secretary/treasurer of Jernigan Insurance Company, and most recently he was an Independent Supervising General Insurance Agent. Mr. Kirby also loved playing golf, enjoyed Southern Mississippi Sports and he never missed a family sports event.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Kirby of Pearl; two sons, Mike Kirby and wife Pam, and Marcus Kirby all of Brandon; four grandchildren, Brian Kirby and wife Kelly of Madison (who are expecting Mr. Kirby’s first great-grandchild on Feb. 2, 2012), Brittany Kirby, Mary Allyn Kirby, and Aidan Kirby all of Brandon; two sisters-in-law, Mary Kirby of Philadelphia, and Wanda Kirby of Houston, TX. Mr. Kirby is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Minnie Kirby; three brothers, Carnell, Billy, and B.J. Kirby, and one sister, Ersel Mills.
